@whato1986 People like you make me cringe since the majority of the people find Simon funny. Open your minds; quit living so narrow-minded. Maybe if you guys laughed at stuff that IS funny, instead of “british comedy” which sucks, you then would stop talking trash against people foreign to you over in the UK. I’m not talking trash, just speaking the truth.

Apart from Niles, I think Simon is the best character in the show!
No wonder he won awards for this part, he is just amazing.
And people who say he makes them cringe, that’s what he is supposed to do, it just shows how good Anthony Lapaglia’s acting is!
One of the best recurring characters in the history of television, it’s a shame he wasn’t in the show more…

I can’t believe that actor won an award for ‘Simon’.
I can’t watch the episodes with him in he makes me cringe, constantly stumbling around with a ludicrous accent, shouting the odd ‘typical englishman’ cliche that makes the america audience laugh (and give awards) whilst british people watching just cringe and grab for the remote.

I’m with Mott on this one, being English, the accent thing’s annoying, almost as annoying as the character. The ONLY good thing about him is I can impersonate him rather neatly winibayygooo.

  12. MottTheWot says:

I would accept it more if he indeed played him constantly drunk, the accent is so bad it was off putting. Could you accept Samantha from Bewitched having Jed Clampett as her brother? Simon was just plain annoying.

  13. erikleorga says:

You think too deep into it. I would also like to think that he’s in a constant case of drunk.

  14. WholeLottaGone says:

    I LUUUUV Simon!!

I am the odd one out here but this character was just so bad i am almost overwhelmed how anyone could find this character even mildly interesting. Distracting more like it. My major complaint is Daphne is from Manchester, yet Simon is talking in a south London cockney accent and a bad one at that?
I love Frasier but this was a weak period of the shows history along with the marriage of Nyles and Daphne. Actually Mel would have been perfectly cast as Maris? Max & 99 Jeannie and Major Nelson?NO !

I love Simon’s character, the actor plays the drunk him so well and has some good lines. His accent is brilliant but why is there no explanation in the show as to why he has a London accent when the character of Daphne is from Manchester? (as we are regularly told) Also Millicent Martin as their mum is great, again with some very funny lines.

Anthony Lapaglia is from Australia and worked hard to lose his accent. He does this character so perfect, though. Not to mention that he is extremely hot

  18. melindajo2000 says:

i hated simon the first time around. Now he’s my absolute favorite recurring character

returning used merchandise is unethical and i for one will never be party to it!

  19. twlightdarkness says:

haha one of the funnest characters in frasier

  20. PANZER692 says:

lapaglia, aka simon, supposed to do manchester accent, since daphne character from THAT city (NW england). think he found doing cockney much easier than manchester accent…a laugh riot nonetheless!

  21. VengaboysRbackINtown says:

Yeah, I think what they were getting at is WHY does he have a cockney accent when the character is supposed to NOT be from London.

  22. muf0603 says:

Anthony Lapaglia is the hottest, funniest actor on tv today. Thanks so much for posting!!!!!!

  23. joms67 says:

thankyou for posting. that was hilarious!

  24. erikleorga says:

Cockney British is the accent. Not to mention that the entire time he throws a good hungover, hangover, and completely drunk tones to his voice making it that much more funny.

  25. spindrift1 says:

    wtf is that accent?
